Contrasting Images

This image shows a person walking alone with a quote saying  'Sometimes you need to walk alone just to show that you can'. The image depicts the quote well as it shows someone walking barefooted in the middle of a lonely road. The person walking without shoes shows the vulnerability of the character as if they have nothing or no one. The angle that the photo was taken from shows a shadow of one person which makes me think loneliness and isolation. In addition the angle you can see in a far distance shows the person walking along a road that seems endless. This portrays the uncertainty of being on your own as you are never sure what is coming towards you. I chose this image because of the meaning I interpreted behind it, it makes me feel a bit scared of the future and being independent without my parents to help me and my friends to be with me.

This image shows a piece of paper saying 'here's to the past' and fire slowing burning through it. The image symbolizes the paper as the past and the fire being the 'forgeting' or 'destruction' of the past. The image has a metaphoric meaning as you can't really burn, forget or destruct the past- but the interpretation shows moving on and going to the future. The picture could also mean you don't need your past to define your future but you can learn from your past and use it as a motivation for your future. I chose the picture as it inspires me to live for the future and forget the past as you cannot move on with life if you live in the past, the image made me feel optimisitc about life experiences and moving on.

The image represents today's society and how controlled it is on what you should look like, be like and act like. The image shows a collections of magazine faded and writing over the top saying 'You're not ugly' and in bold 'Society is'. It sends out a message to young girls, and boys, that there is no such thing as perfect and that you don't have to look a certain way to be accepted. This image makes me feel happy that there is a reminder that we are perfect just the way we are. On the other hand, it made me feel quite angry as so many people are destroying themselves to be looked at as perfect when it does not exist. The media pushes them to pull themselves apart and fit into this frame of perfection and so many people still don't realize that 99% of things in these magazines are photoshopped. I chose this image as it has a huge impact on our generation and what the world is like today.

The image shows an apple looking into a mirror with a smile on it's face but hidden behind that smile is an apple with a sad face. This image represents a play on emotions. It is also a metaphoric image as apples don't really have emotions but a representation of  human feelings. It shows a mirrored image of the difference between what your real emotions are and what you choose to show people. It gives people an idea of what other people are like so even though someone may tell you they are ok that might not be true. It relates to a lot of people and that is why I chose this image as it relates to me because not everyday I am in a happy mood but would rather keep a smile on your face than have questions about 'what is wrong?' and 'Are you ok?' .

  6. Well done Chris-Sonnia. I am impressed by your choices of image and the way you have set about analysing them. You also show awareness that the media sometimes creates a powerful spell over society through the representations portrayed. A great start.
